Here’s what you need to do if you suspect your loved one is being mistreated by one or more nursing home staff members.

When we think about a nursing home, we imagine a safe and comfortable place for aging individuals to go and live when they can no longer care for themselves. While there are plenty of homes that live up to this expectation, there are a number of those in South Florida that do not. While some homes are plagued with poorly trained staff members who don’t know how to treat and/or care for the people they are supposed to be helping, others are unkept and dirty resulting in residents becoming ill.

Nursing Assistant Accused of Sexually Assaulting at Least Four Elderly Women in Clearwater

Clearwater police officers recently arrested 32-year-old Falo Kane for allegedly sexually assaulting at least four elderly women while working as a nursing assistant [Source: KDVR]. The news source says that Kane “is believed to have worked at four facilities in Clearwater when the assaults took place—two in 2016 and two in 2019.” The source said that he may even have worked at other facilities as well. Two of Kane’s alleged victims relied on wheelchairs and one was 80 years old. Another woman who was said to have been sexually assaulted by Kane had suffered a stroke.

The source went on to highlight that “Kane allegedly abused two of the victims while changing their adult diapers.” Police began conducting an investigation after one of the facilities reported the sex assault of a patient,” which is standard protocol facilities and law enforcement agencies are expected to follow. During the time police questioned Kane, he admitted that he had sexually abused the woman and wrote a single apology letter addressed to all four women.

Kane was charged with four counts of sexual battery and was being held in the Pinellas County Jail without bail.
