Was Your Elderly Loved One Abused or Neglected at a Nursing Care Facility?
Our California Nursing Home Abuse Lawyers Can Help

According to a recent Congressional report, physical, emotional and sexual abuse is prevalent among nursing home facilities across the country. Roughly 30 percent of nursing homes in the United States have been cited for abuse from 1999 to 2001 for incidents including malnutrition, inadequate sanitation or hygiene, and inadequate medical care. In many of the cases, the abuse was so severe that it placed the residents in jeopardy of death.

Some incidents of nursing home abuse or neglect involve an actual caregiver committing these violations while others involve the failure of staff members to protect the elderly from abuse by other residents. But regardless of who was guilty of the abuse, it’s important for all residents and their loved ones to understand that they are entitled to seek legal help to put an end to the victim’s suffering. California Nursing Home Abuse Statistics

Elderly abuse is common in California nursing care facilities. According to the Attorney General’s office, the following statistics were recorded from between 1999 and 2001:

Number of nursing home facilities that were in compliance with federal health and safety standards:

  • Only 1 out of 439 nursing homes in Los Angeles County
  • Only 18 out of 288 nursing homes in the San Francisco Bay area

These statistics show that the majority of nursing home centers in California are in violation of federal care standards and may be held liable for their actions in a court of law.
